As a photographer, everybody knows the importance of having a wrinkle-free backdrop. However, wrinkles often happen, so it’s important to know how to deal with them without harming your backdrop. Here are some ways to get wrinkles out of your backdrops.

  1. Stretch the Backdrop

The to get rid of the wrinkles on a backdrop is by hanging it up and pull the wrinkles out. You can attach the backdrop to the stand and use some clips to clip the backdrop to the side posts. The gravity will pull the wrinkles down, you can simply wait a few hours until the wrinkles naturally disappeared from your backdrop.

  1. Spray Some Water

Another simple way to get the wrinkles out of your backdrop is just by spraying some water.

Hang your backdrop from its stand. This will permit you to see the wrinkles carefully for better spraying. And gravity may also help to get some of the wrinkles out as I mentioned before.

Use a spray bottle to spray the backdrop with water until the wrinkles disappear. If water by itself isn’t getting the job done, you can use your hand or a brush to smooth down the wrinkles.

  1. Use a Portable Steamer

Using steamer is the most effective way to get wrinkles out of backdrops. If you need to use the backdrop right away, use a hand-held steamer. It removes wrinkles easily and quickly. Pay attention to the temperature of steam ironing. Gently move the steamer up and down each wrinkle until it starts to fade away. If any damage occurs, lower the heat setting on your steamer or move it farther away from the backdrop.

  1. Use the Washer and Dryer

The washer and dryer technique is a useful way to remove wrinkles from your backdrop. However, this method is only effective for washable backdrop.

Put the backdrop in the washing machine, with cool water to wash. You can either wash it with mild soap, fabric softener, or no soap at all. Toss it in the dryer for about 20 minutes. Do not leave it in dryer for long time since the heat can damage the print or the fabric. Once you take it out of the dryer, hang it up to dry. Gravity will help remove the rest of the wrinkles, as will the sun.

There are plenty of ways to get wrinkles out of your backdrop. You can use natural gravity, heat, water, or a combination of them to remove the wrinkles. Of course, you can also remove the wrinkles in the step of photo post-processing such as in Photoshop or Lightroom.
